Canalina Infinity

Applications

CANALINA INFINITY is an advanced linear drainage system that is 100% watertight, designed to allow the flow of surface water.

Suitable for paved structures in both indoor and outdoor environments.

The system is made of Polypropylene (PP) and consists of 1.50-meter-long modules connected in a continuous line. The standard height is 11 cm at the screed level.

The section and internal slope of the CANALINA INFINITY drainage channels enhance the water flow speed and the resulting self-cleaning force, effectively preventing debris from accumulating at the bottom of the conduit.

The material and construction design make the channel very lightweight, offering all the related logistical advantages. Although the channels have an internal slope, they maintain a uniform external height, allowing for flat installation and simplifying the setup process.

Around the channel body, there is a flange with an applied felted fabric that enables connection to insulation systems using thin-bed installation techniques. The frames on the channel and the special parts are made of AISI 316L stainless steel.

The system is completed with perfectly compatible special components, such as: drain terminals, end caps, AISI 304 stainless steel grates, and accessories to ensure a watertight seal.

Note: Upon request, the grates can be supplied in AISI 316L stainless steel.

The channels are easy to inspect and clean.

Assembly

The assembly and installation instructions on the following “Technical Data Sheet” are distributed for demonstration purposes only. Special assemblies or requirements need to be evaluated by Malagrida Group s.r.l. in accordance with the designer. Correct commissioning of the system is necessary in order to ensure that it (duct-grille) has a longer life span and better water flow-off.

Phase 1

Check that the lip-round seals are placed in their housing at the ends of the channel and are not deformed.

Phase 2

Assemble the channels after lubricating the male joint with the approved lubricant, ensuring to put the flat seal between the channels. The flat seal has to adhere perfectly with the mounting flange of the channels. Position the galvanized iron connecting plates outside the mounting flange of the ducts, and fasten the ducts with the screws and bolts provided, making sure to tighten the bolt using a “criss-cross” sequence, without tightening too much to prevent the flat seal from coming out. This incorrect fastening can compromise the waterproofing of the system. To make assembly easier, we suggest performing the assembly phases mentioned above with the ducts upside down.
It is recommended to perform the assembly on flat surfaces. To complete the assembly with elements like the end caps and the drain terminals carefully repeat Phases 1-2.

Phase 3

Put the channel into the position of use. Important Note: If the channel is more than 3 meters long, more installers are required in order to avoid any abnormal twists to the channel. Lay the channel at the project height and make the screed with the grille already mounted. Note: use only pipes with o-rings seal. Once the previous steps have been carried out correctly, we recommend to flood the channel system to check its waterproofing.

Phase 4

Make the formwork or duct access box (as shown in the figure) with structural fluid cement mortar with a minimum thickness on the side of the felted fins of 5 cm, taking care to fill it evenly on the exterior. Please Note: The step described above must be carried out once the grille has been installed. This is of fundamental importance because it prevents the duct from expanding during freeze-thaw cycles (temperature changes).

Phase 5

Connect the duct with the drainage system (with the proper size and gradient).
Please Note: Only use pipes with o-ring waterproof seals.

Phase 6

Run the sloping screed up against the previously made concrete formwork or box, taking care not to ruin the fabric on it, as this would result in a reduced seal of any waterproofing system to be carried out later. We recommend protecting the fabric. Any waterproofing must be carried out in adherence to the felt flap, in accordance with the instructions provided by the manufacturer of the waterproofing system. It is necessary, however, in order to connect the waterproofing system and the duct, to apply the strip junction (ART. INF/BAND) listed in the catalogue/price list.

Phase 7

Lay the paving, making sure that the finished level is at least 1 mm above the stainless steel frames (grille and duct). Note: the use of an expansion joint is advisable between the channel and the floor. Inside the stainless steel tile grille, a silicone grout between tile and steel is recommended on the laid floor.
The company accepts no liability for assembly or installation errors.

The installation and laying instructions detailed in the following “Technical Data Sheet” are provided exclusively as examples to allow the final fitter to follow the best recommendations for installation. Special assemblies or requirements need to be evaluated by Malagrida Group s.r.l. in accordance with the designer. The correct installation of the system is necessary to ensure it (duct-grille) a longer life and a better water flow.

For the correct use of the example laying diagrams below, we recommend following these simple tips as it will be much easier to find the right item and sizing for your job.

  1. Identify the linear metres of Infinity ducting required for your job.
  2. Identify the position of the drainage points and the diameter of your balconies/terraces/lawns, etc. in order to be able to slope the ducting towards them with the help of the dotted line on the diagrams.
  3. Choose the Infinity ducting most suitable for your project, taking into consideration points 1 and 2.
  • Carefully follow the instructions for use accompanying the products.
  • The products have been designed for domestic use, thus limitations of use apply.
  • Hot water flowing only for a short time at a maximum temperature of 90°C.
  • Do not use chemical cleaners to remove any deposits inside the duct.
  • The stainless steel surfaces, exposed to the environmental elements or aggressive substances, should be cleaned periodically using a mild cleaning product. Regular cleaning not only gives the stainless steel a shiny appearance, but also prevents corrosion. The cleaning product must be free of hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid.
  • Avoid contact with other metals, such as for example non-stainless steel, since contact may cause rusting. The same is valid for the use of tools such as spatulas or steel wool, used to clean mortar, glue and filler residues.
  • The duct system is suitable for waterproofing with liquid primers or insulation compounds for thin-bed installations.
  • To correctly design and choose the appropriate ducting system, it is necessary to know the square meters that the system must drain so that the proper duct size for the application can be determined.
  • Periodic maintenance of the duct is recommended to avoid accumulation of dirt inside it.
  • The product is sensitive to certain petrol by-products.

What are the advantages of PP drainage channels?

The specific structure of polypropylene makes the internal surface of the drainage systems extremely smooth, preventing the buildup of debris and dirt. Channels made from this material are lightweight, easy to install, and resistant to chemical agents.

How much do Canalina Infinity drainage channels cost?

The price of our PP drainage channels is lower than metal or concrete models. To get detailed pricing on individual modules, grates, and components of the Malagrida Group systems, please contact us.

We will be happy to provide you with a price list including all our products.

What load class do Malagrida linear drainage channels belong to?
Our channels belong to load class A15 and can be installed on all wet surfaces, both indoors and outdoors, where heavy vehicles are not expected to pass.

How often should I clean the drainage channels?

Cleaning and maintenance of our drainage channels should be carried out at least once a year. However, if they are exposed to severe weather conditions or installed in environments with large amounts of water and chemical agents, we recommend repeating these procedures every few months.
On our website, in the product pages, you will find all the necessary instructions for cleaning and maintaining our drainage channels.
